Awareness programme on Climate Change Impact on Coastal India
A week long awareness programme for the youth on ‘Climate
Change Impact on Coastal India’ was held at our college seminar hall on 8 Sept,
2009 by the Association of British Scholars, Mangalore chapter, British Council,
Chennai and Extension Education Wing, College of Fisheries, Mangalore.
Dr.D.L.Prabhakara, the principal inaugurated the programme by symbolically
watering a plant. Mr.Ashwath Rao, Lecturer, Dept of Electronics and
Communication welcomed the gathering and also introduced the resource person of
the day.
The resource person Dr.S.M.Shivaprakash, who is the Secretary of Association of
British Scholars, Mangalore chapter spoke about the climate change affecting the
entire world and also cautioned about its ill effects which will be affecting us
in the near future. He also emphasized the need to create awareness among the
people of coastal India in preventing the ecosystem from being damaged.
In the course of his presentation he also displayed to the students a few videos
depicting the impact of climate change on several places particularly on
Sunderbans in Calcutta. The talk was followed by a quiz competition for the
students. Mr. Raghavendra Prabhu, Dept of MBA distributed the prizes to the
students who secured the first and second place. Mr.Lokesh, Asst. Prof., Dept of
MBA, compeered the programme.
